  • Another cold, cold movie by Haneke. This one's better than some of the others, though. Isabelle Hupert is the perfect actress for Haneke. She good and very technical in her effects as an actress. No warmth, but people who enjoy watching suffering know Haneke will deliver it as art.

  • I would highly recommend this film to anyone who is deeply caring & has ever thought about growing old. This is the most amazing film I think I have ever seen! It made me laugh & smile, many times & once it really made me jump & scream out loud, (if you watch it you will understand) ... but most of all, I could not take my eyes nor my emotions away from the Screen. I give it a standing ovation :)

  • This is happening in my life right now. My wife only 42 suffered a Massive SDH (Sub-Dural Hematoma). Although she is without body mobility she is somewhat cognitive now. Finally off a vent. When she became first cognitive she did not want to be like that. For some reason I saw this movie going through channels - read the subtext - watched it and thought it very depressing. I hope that no-one ever has to go through that.

    • @Gerry Abarca I'm sorry you are going through this. I've worked in hospice for awhile. I think love can be such a blessing and a curse. It's a wonderful drug that adds depth into life. It's such an unselfish feeling to want to do anything for another person, until you realize you don't ever think of letting go. I've met and talked to people of different faiths ages and relationships and even saw a twin saying goodbye to another. I wish you the best in the most unfair and impossible situation, but human beings get through impossible things more times that they give themselves credit for. The only thing I can really write that seemed to bring somewhat of a smile to me, was talking to someone after they lost the one they loved. He said, "She loved me and I loved her. We reminded each other that much more as the days went by. I'm going to see some friends and family right now after you leave not because I want to. I'm going to get through this because if it were me who left this world before she did, I would think I was the lucky one for not having to deal with her loss. I would have wanted her to be happy with or without me. She taught me to live. So I'm to go out there and try my best." Whatever happens, I hope both of you get through this.

    • kellenabner I don't disagree that she did a great job of conveying Tiffany's insecurities and instabilities, but on the other hand (and this is just from my perspective), I never felt for Tiffany the way I felt for Anne as she deteriorated further and further. Of course, my maternal grandmother had passed on some years past and she suffered from a really nasty case of dementia, so watching Riva's performance brought all those horrible memories and situations back.

    • His is just an opinion, but Zi personally liked Jennifer's performance more. I think that she deserved the OSCAR because of her extremely realistic portrayal of a very messed up character. Also, she made herself seem a lot older than she actually was too. Keep in mind that Jennifer was 21 when they filmed the movie but she looked a lot older.

  • If for the sake of science the lives of people (and their suffering) are dragged out, a mercy killing is commendable. If doctors who make living/suffering like that possible were burdened with the daily care of their victims, far fewer elderly would be in this predicament. Doctors and hospitals are businesses and most are purely in it for the money. If only the masses would get that into their heads.
